Creating standard embeds using custom components

Updated: 28 May 2019

Embeds are pre-fabricated steel assemblies, used in concrete casts for connecting concrete members together or to steel members. Embeds are also block outs, electrical boxes etc. that are cast in to the concrete.

In Tekla Structures embeds are created using the custom part functionality which consist of native Tekla Structures objects, or items.

Items are 3D objects created in any 3D modelling software like SketchUp, and are inserted into Tekla Structures shape catalog. The use of items is the best way to ensure accuracy of the vendors’ products while providing the "lightest" solution for Tekla Structures users.

Standard embeds

The majority of embeds used in concrete casts are standard embeds, which are designed and manufactured as mass production and do not require a manufacturing drawing produced from Tekla Structures. They are identified either by their name or product/ordering code.

Special embeds

The other type of embeds is a special embed, which is manufactured for a specific project. It must be designed and a manufacturing drawing must be produced for that specific project.

Instructions

The following instructions cover only standard embeds, but the same principles should be used also for special embeds.
